Damian Ellerton

Damian Ellerton is an Associate in the New Plymouth office specialising in environmental noise control and building acoustics.

Damian's experience in environmental noise includes experience in a wide range of projects from single owner operator businesses to national corporates.

Employment with New Plymouth District Council in the mid 1990's introduced Damian to the requirements of Councils and the then newly introduced Resource Management Act. This experience in a regulatory environment is also of benefit when District Plan reviews of noise issues arise.

The environmental noise work in Taranaki includes onshore and offshore exploration for hydrocarbons. The associated processing plant and equipment for installations also requires expert consideration regarding on going noise emissions. The use of noise modelling allows the feasibility and project development to have a well defined acoustic component ensuring certainty of outcome.

Damian's experience in building acoustics spans several sectors including commercial, community and performing arts.

After working in the United Kingdom and obtaining his MSc in Environmental Acoustics, Damian joined Marshall Day Acoustics' Christchurch office in 2002 before moving to Wellington briefly before opening the New Plymouth office in 2007.

Since beginning work in the field of environmental acoustics, Damian has gained a diversity of experience in consultancy in many project sectors including noise modelling and measurement, policy planning, building acoustics and performing arts.

Project experience includes:

:: Environmental noise assessment for wide range of projects - Winstone quarry South Taranaki and Belmont Wellington;  Meridian Project White Hill wind farm;  On and off shore noise oil rig monitoring; On-shore drilling programmes for Todd Energy and Greymouth Petroleum and others.

:: District Plan noise issue review for Rotorua, Whakatane and South Waikato District Councils.

:: Preparation and delivery of expert evidence at Council Hearings and Environment Court.

:: Port Taranaki Offices, new 5-star rated office building, New Plymouth - sound insulation & room acoustics.

:: Kings & Queens Performing Arts Auditorium in Dunedin; Ashburton Auditorium; redevelopment of the St James Theatre in Westport; South Christchurch Library, - room acoustics and building noise control

Damian spends his spare time with his young family and renovating his turn of the century villa.
