Jon Farren

Jon Farren is an Associate with the Christchurch office specialising in building acoustics and environmental noise control.

Jon's experience in building acoustics spans several sectors including commercial, education and performing arts.  Early employment with Radio Telefis Eireann (RTE) and Granada Television developed Jon's understanding of the stringent acoustical requirements for broadcasting and he has since worked on numerous radio, television and recording studio projects in Ireland, New Zealand and Australia. The design of studios as part of music school projects broadened Jon's interest into the acoustical design of learning environments and performing arts auditoria.

Jon also has strong interests in environmental noise and industrial noise control.  The proficient use of 3-dimensional noise modelling software for several large pharmaceutical, electronics, dairy, wind farm and transportation projects has streamlined the noise assessment and noise control specification process.  Jon draws on his extensive environmental acoustics experience to provide comprehensive assessment of noise effects and expert evidence.

Originally from Ireland, Jon first joined Marshall Day Acoustics' Wellington office in 1996 moving to Christchurch in 1999. He later established our Sydney office in 2003 before returning to Christchurch in 2008.

Since obtaining his degree in Electroacoustics in 1993, Jon has gained a diversity of experience in acoustics consultancy in several countries and has developed skills in many project sectors including building acoustics, performing arts and environmental noise modelling and measurement.

Recent project experience includes:

:: Christchurch International Airport Integrated Terminal - room acoustics and building noise control

:: St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Queenstown - assessment of noise effects & expert evidence

:: Otago Regional Council new 5-star rated office building, Dunedin - sound insulation & room acoustics

:: Civic Place, Chatswood, NSW - acoustics project manager for concert hall, theatre and library
