Rob Hay

Rob is a Consultant with the Christchurch office specialising in environmental noise and Super Yacht design.

Rob's experience in environmental noise is wide ranging, covering industrial, transport, entertainment and educational sectors.  His experience in building acoustics includes luxury yachts (essentially very high specification apartments with unusual and demanding construction constraints and requirements), commercial, and education sectors.

Early employment with DSIR/Crop and Food Research developed Rob's understanding of the need to communicate the results of his work accurately and succinctly. He has since worked extensively with industrial and commercial organisations of all sizes measuring and assessing noise workplace noise and chemical contaminants, training staff and management and providing control systems and solutions. Since joining Marshall Day Rob's personal interest in music has led to an interest in the design of educational and performing arts spaces.

Rob also has strong interests in occupational and industrial noise control.  Rob utilises his extensive environmental and industrial acoustics experience to provide comprehensive assessment of noise effects and expert evidence.

Rob joined Marshall Day Acoustics' Christchurch office in 2006.  Since obtaining his degrees in Chemistry in 1985 and 1988, Rob has built a wealth of experience in industrial and acoustics consultancy and has developed skills in many project sectors including Super yacht and building acoustics; environmental noise measurement and assessment; and preparation and presentation of expert evidence.

Recent project experience includes:

:: Christchurch Southern Motorway - Modelling of noise emission for proposed design (Tender Stage).

:: Rippon Vineyard - Internal acoustics for main function space, sound insulation, modelling of environmental noise.

:: SY Inmocean - acoustic design for luxury yacht interior and deck spaces.

:: Heller Tasty - Internal acoustics for new office block combined with internal and external sound insulation requirements.

:: Solid Energy Bio-Diesel Plant, Rolleston - design of building and mechanical plant to control environmental noise.

:: University of Otago - Design of mechanical plant noise control for state of the art refrigerated research laboratories.
