Formerly known as Civic Place, The Concourse represents one of the most comprehensive cultural infrastructure projects undertaken by a local government authority and Marshall Day Acoustics are pleased to have been appointed as acoustic consultant on this prestigious project on the North Shore of Sydney.

Our appointment, which was the result of a rigorous competitive tender and interview process, was based on our internationally acclaimed concert hall and theatre project experience in addition to the design innovation demonstrated by the Marshall Day Acoustics team.

The acoustic design brief was to provide an excellent acoustic environment for a broad range of uses in both the concert hall and theatre ranging from orchestras to school rock bands and from drama to conferences.  The project also encompasses a banqueting/exhibition hall (Civic Pavilion), library and rehearsal space, each with their own exacting requirements.

The space constraints of the site present significant challenges for the control of both external traffic noise and mechanical plant noise into the auditoria.

The theatre planning on this project was performed by Marshall Day Entertech.  The design architect is FJMT.

Mathisha Panagoda, cellist and founder of the Sydney Camerata, writing in the ABC Limelight magazine says,

"Boasting beautiful maple wood panelling and crimson red seating over two levels, the interior was certainly visually appealing, but was the acoustic equally pleasing? In a word, yes! As a 1,000-seat hall inspired by traditional European theatres it offered a clear, crisp response that was neither boomy nor overly generous.... Overall, we were very pleased with the acoustic and as our soloist in Mozart's Jeunehomme Piano Concerto Kathryn Selby quite simply said, "they got this one right".
