Originally built in the 1930's, 74 Shortland Street was the home to NZBS Radio, NZBC Television - AKTV2 and South Pacific Television until 1996. This building, from which the first television broadcast in New Zealand was made, is now the location of the University of Auckland's Creative Arts section of the School of Music.

The refurbishment of this heritage building, which was in a derelict condition, turned it into an extremely flexible modern teaching facility for the Performing Arts - Performance Studio, Dance Studio, four Music classrooms, six Video Edit Suites, five Sound Studios, and four Practice Rooms.

Marshall Day Acoustics was responsible for room acoustics, noise control and technical fitout.

Personnel involved with this project included Christopher Day, Keith Ballagh, Joanne Valentine and Larry Elliott.

The project was undertaken within an extremely limited budget and a very short time frame.
