XI'AN CONCERT HALL, China
XI'AN CONCERT HALL, China
Xian has been one of China's most important capital cities for 13 dynasties. With a history going back more than 3,100 years Xian is now reasserting its position as an educational, industrial and cultural centre.
Xian Concert Hall is the performance focus of a large modern Tang style development close to the medieval city walls. The traditional design of the exterior hides a modern auditorium designed to offer symphony orchestras a world class performance venue.
With seating for 1250 patrons, the Hall offers an intimate experience for orchestral and chamber music concerts. Under the direction of Sir Harold Marshall, Marshall Day Acoustics has developed the interior design based on their extensive experience and their computer design facilities.
The concert hall retains a classic shoe box form with an appropriate level of sound diffusion being provided through the integration of acoustical function within architectural form. The result is excellent sound at all seats.
A high degree of diffusive surfaces and reflective elements around the stage platform, result in excellent clarity and ensemble conditions.
The pipe organ is by Orgelbau Klais, Bonn.
In the first few months since opening, the hall has already had an impressive array of performances including the China Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Mozart Symphony Orchestra.
