Damian Ellerton is an Associate in the New Plymouth office, specialising in environmental acoustics. His experience in environmental noise includes a wide range of projects from single owner operator businesses to national corporate companies.

Employment with New Plymouth District Council in the mid 1990’s introduced Damian to the requirements of Councils and the then newly introduced Resource Management Act. This experience in a regulatory environment is also of benefit when District Plan reviews of noise and those hard to resolve issues arise.

The range of environmental noise work Damian works on includes onshore and offshore exploration for hydrocarbons, geothermal power systems and wind farm development. Damian is also involved with wave technology and new cutting edge power generation technology being upscaled from laboratory to field testing.

The associated processing plant and equipment for existing industrial installations also requires expert consideration regarding on-going noise emissions. The use of noise modelling allows the feasibility and project development to have a well defined acoustic component ensuring certainty of outcome.

After working in the United Kingdom and obtaining his MSc in Environmental Acoustics, Damian joined Marshall Day Acoustics’ Christchurch office in 2002 before he moved to Wellington briefly, before opening the New Plymouth office in 2007.

Since beginning work in the field of environmental acoustics, Damian has also gained a diversity of experience in consultancy across many sectors including, noise modelling and measurement and policy planning. The development of remote noise and weather monitoring with manufacturers is an ongoing interest, which is used as a tool for assisting clients to ensure they comply with their statutory requirements.

In addition to his environmental work, Damian’s experience in building acoustics spans several sectors including commercial, community and performing arts.

Damian has worked for Marshall Day Acoustics for 20 years so he used to spend spare time with his young family and maintaining his turn of the century villa, but now the children have grown and nearly left home Damian is embracing middle age one latte and craft beer at a time.
