Our Scope
The project involved repurposing an existing lightweight building, making the acoustic design a key consideration during the design process. MDA was involved in the internal design to ensure a high-quality, controlled environment within all studios, with additional attention given to achieving a high level of sound separation between studios.
We worked closely with the client, architect, manufacturers, and installers to meet both aesthetic goals and the acoustic needs crucial for high-quality music production.
CHALLENGES
Given that Big Fan was built within a lightweight building, traditional heavy masonry construction wasn’t feasible. Instead, ‘lightweight’ box-in-box construction methods were used to achieve an adequate level of sound separation between studio rooms.
The proximity of the live music venue to a nearby residential development required innovative solutions to ensure the venue could operate without causing disruptions to the surrounding area.
