Malcolm is an Associate in the Auckland office with extensive experience in building acoustics, including internal acoustic design, sound insulation and mechanical services noise control.

He joined MDA in 1997 after graduating from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Engineering. He has notable experience in the design of world class gallery spaces as well as traditional Oman style civic buildings. Common to both types of project is the need for the acoustic treatment to integrate effectively and sensitively into the architecture. Malcolm’s range of expertise, along with his extensive local experience, enables him to identify potential issues early in the design process and to develop elegant and cost effective design solutions.

Additionally, Malcolm has a special interest in auralisation, spatial audio and VR and has led the development of The Listening Room - a state of the art simulation facility. The facility has been used successfully on a range of projects including performing arts venues, museums, residential developments and community engagement on infrastructure developments.
