The Cube Wodonga

Designed by Williams Ross Architects, The Cube is a flexible performance and civic venue built to replace the former Wodonga Civic Hall. It comprises two highly adaptable performance spaces and an outdoor courtyard performance area.

The venue accommodates a range of performances including theatre, live music and circus, and features high truss loadings and configurable rigging, allowing easy adaptation between different performance formats.

Our Scope

Marshall Day Acoustics was engaged to provide acoustic and theatre design services. This included room acoustics to support the venue’s wide range of performance and community uses. Acoustic requirements were integrated with flexible staging and seating configurations, and coordinated with architectural and technical systems to achieve adaptable and fully functional performance environments.

THE AUDITORIUM

The main auditorium features a flat-floor open stage with retractable seating banks incorporating a 1200mm deep, three-row seating pit, providing seating for 450 while allowing the space to be configured for a raised stage effect or standing events of up to 900 people. An audience gallery offers additional seating or a technical control position, and a technical gallery above can be used for lighting, drapes, or alternate control positions. 9-metre-high operable walls divide the space, enabling concurrent events such as meetings, conferences, or community activities.

Outdoor space

An adjoining courtyard extends the auditorium’s technical infrastructure, with the ability to open the back of the theatre and utilise the stage and rigging for outdoor events. A raked awning fitted with one-tonne rigging points supports line array PA systems and lighting, enabling performances for up to 2,000 people in the open air.
