2043 ANEF for RAAF Base Darwin, Darwin International Airport + Robertson Barracks

An updated Australian Noise Exposure Forecast (ANEF) was prepared for RAAF Base Darwin, Darwin International Airport and Robertson Barracks, and includes forecast civilian and military aircraft flying activity to the year 2043.

ANEF maps are used by local government and planning authorities when considering planning applications for new development in the vicinity of airports and aerodromes.

Our Scope

MDA was engaged to prepare the 2043 ANEF for RAAF Base Darwin, Darwin International Airport and Robertson Barracks, for inclusion in the 2023 Darwin Airport Masterplan. The ANEF was prepared using the Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT) version 3e, as required for technical endorsement for Airservices Australia.

Our primary responsibility was collation of military component inputs and subsequent modelling. As a joint user airfield, the ANEF also includes civilian aircraft activity, which is subject to a technical review by Airservices Australia.

The model was merged with the civil component prepared by Airbiz, to develop a combined military-civil noise model for the 2043 ANEF.

To present information about aircraft noise in a more informative manner, additional noise metrics were calculated, e.g. N-contour maps, to demonstrate the regularity of aircraft noise events at particular noise levels during a particular time period.

MDA were also responsible for stakeholder engagement, community and local government consultation events.
