Bradfield Central Park

Bradfield Central Park is a landmark two-hectare public space adjacent to the new Western Sydney International Airport. Set to become the green heart of Bradfield City Centre, the park will offer spaces for quiet recreation, community gatherings, festivals, outdoor cinema, and markets.

Designed by an ASPECT Studios-led team, it celebrates the natural beauty of the Cumberland Plain and the rich cultural heritage of the Dharug people.

Our Scope

MDA was engaged to prepare the noise and vibration impact assessment to accompany the State Significant Development Application submission for the project for the project to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing & Infrastructure.

In assessing the acoustic viability of the parkland concept, noise sources (future) which may impact upon the suitability of the site for the intended future usage, future sources of noise generation that may impact upon surrounding receivers (existing and future) and noise and vibration generated during construction on surrounding development, were considered.

A model of the site and surrounds was developed using computer modelling software and future operational scenarios developed to evaluate construction noise emissions, the exposure of the parkland to noise from surface transportation and the propagation of noise from future large events staged within the park upon surrounding receivers.

Criteria for the assessment of noise and vibration impacts, including those generated during construction, were developed based on the results of an ambient noise monitoring and current regulatory requirements, guidelines and standards.

CHALLENGES

Being a greenfield development, assessments of future impacts required the review and collation of future projections for road traffic, Metro and rail movements on a future elevated rail line constructed within the transport corridor that runs through the site. Operational scenarios were required to be developed for a variety of future events which may be held throughout the park.
