Cochin Hospital

This project consolidates adult haematology services from Necker and Cochin-Port-Royal hospitals into a single site at Cochin Hospital.

Designed by Carta - Riechen et Robert Associés, it covers a total area of 14,500 m², including 2,800 m² of renovated historic buildings and a land reserve for future development.

The scope includes renovation of the historic Pasteur A-Delbet building and construction of a new hospital building to replace the demolished Pasteur B and Lavoisier buildings. The facility comprises hospital wards, some classified as ISO 7 and ISO 8, a day hospital, consultation rooms, clinical and translational research laboratories, and a clinical investigation centre.

Our Scope

Marshall Day Acoustics was commissioned to provide full acoustic design for the project, including sound insulation, impact and mechanical services noise control, and room acoustics, working closely with the project team.

CHALLENGES

The project presented significant acoustic challenges, due to the extreme sanitary requirements of ISO 7 and ISO 8 rooms, which are equipped with airlocks and laminar flow air treatment systems. High air flow rates needed to achieve the necessary hygiene levels posed a considerable risk of airborne noise, while patient rooms required very low noise levels.

Achieving these conditions required careful design of ventilation networks, selection of low-noise HVAC equipment, and attention to vibration isolation. Marshall Day Acoustics proposed tailor-made solutions that balanced acoustic performance with sanitary constraints and hospital maintenance requirements.
