Insurance Australia Group Headquarters

The IAG fitout refurbished 35,000m² over 20 floors of an existing tower in Darling Harbour, Sydney.

Designed by Hassell Architects, the fitout created interconnecting spaces across multiple levels, including open-plan agile workspaces, client floors, an experience centre, training areas, meeting and focus rooms, a commercial kitchen and a wide variety of collaborative environments to support staff and client activities. New services and amenities were provided throughout all levels.

The project was awarded the MBA Best Refurbishment ($25M+) in 2018.

Our Scope

Marshall Day Acoustics provided full acoustic design services, addressing speech privacy between spaces, control of reverberation time, mechanical services noise control, and design for Green Star Acoustic credits. Our work included an audit of the existing office space, extensive consultation to define acoustic privacy goals, and specification of internal partitions, floors, and finishes.

CHALLENGES

Acoustic privacy was a critical requirement on the client floors, where sensitive meetings take place. MDA worked early in the project with the client to translate their varying privacy requirements across the building into clearly defined acoustic targets. The team worked closely with Hassell and the design team to integrate acoustic solutions into the fitout, and continued support through construction to resolve the challenges that commonly arise during large-scale refits of existing buildings.
