Stadium de Toulouse RWC 2023 EAS Upgrades

Refurbished ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, the Stadium de Toulouse required upgrades to its Emergency Alert System (EAS) which had experienced functionality issues.

The project brought together our French and Australian teams, demonstrating seamless collaboration across our offices.

CLIENT

City of Toulouse

LOCATION

Toulouse, France

COMPLETED

2023

Our Scope

Marshall Day Acoustics was engaged by the City of Toulouse to resolve the EAS issues in time for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Our work included:

  • On-site measurements to verify the performance of the proposed loudspeakers

  • 3D modelling of the stadium in different configurations (full, empty, etc.) and calculation of LAeq and STI in the stands

  • Assistance with loudspeaker adjustments

  • Commissioning measurements

CHALLENGES

The project proved more complex than it initially appeared and demanded flexibility and quick problem-solving.

  • On-site measurements revealed that loudspeakers did not match the manufacturer’s specifications

  • Acoustic absorption coefficients for the modelling had to be estimated due to incomplete data provided by a foreign consultant

  • Very stringent STI criteria needed to be met for 100% of the seats

  • Numerous adjustments were required during the commissioning phase

  • A very narrow timeframe was available to complete works, adjustments, and commissioning between the end of the local club season and the start of the Rugby World Cup
